Road Trip

In a few days I will be loading up the Wagon Queen Family Truckster (aka my Ford Taurus) to haul myself and three friends to Athens for a long weekend. I cannot wait!

I'm ignoring the fact that I've got a slight cold, courtesy of my trip to DC last weekend that was awesome in almost every other way.

I'm also fighting my genetic tendency to freak out about having everything packed up and loaded into the car on the night before so I can "hit the road at 8 a.m. sharp" and "make good time" and all the other stuff my dad used to obsess over during family vacations when I was growing up.

It is kind of stressful to be the one in charge, though — and especially since I'm coordinating pick-ups at three different places/times for people who are not related to me and thus are not aware of my customary MO for road trips. It's different when my sister and I go somewhere together; we kind of fall into the same routines and know where the other is coming from.

Speaking of Jenn: She and I haven't decided yet whether we're going to take a trip during Memorial Day weekend. I was thinking of going back to DC — there are lots of museums I haven't seen yet! — but it might be just as nice to hang out in the country and eat a lot of peaches. (Gah! Now I'll have that song stuck in my head all afternoon instead of "Holiday Road.")
