This Week in Netflix: Volume 21

My sister and I had a lovely time in Barberton last night
. The sarma was great; Indy 4, marginally less so. It's definitely a bargain night/matinee price type of thing — I can't advocate paying full price because it's kind of meh-plus. If you don't take it too seriously, though, it's enjoyable. I would rate it above Temple of Doom but after Raiders and Last Crusade, in that order.

I mean, there were definitely a few moments where I mumbled "Yeah right... like
that would happen" under my breath, but then it was a lot of astonished cursing and Ouch!/Ewww!/Urk! during fight sequences, scenes with lots of skeletons, and the part that looks like the Rotor at the carnival.

I did appreciate the little shout-outs to bits from the previous movies, as well as other non-Indy movies, like the full-on Brando/On the Waterfront homage when Mutt rolls up on his Harley.

As for things I've actually rented from Netflix ....

I watched I Am Legend with my sister a few weeks ago, when I was in Akron for Mother's Day. Jenn was asking me all kinds of questions about the plot and whatnot while we were watching it, and I'm all, I don't know — I've never seen this.

We were kind of meh-minus about the whole thing, and [spoiler alert, in case you haven't seen it or heard about this part] the bit with the dog dying seemed harsh — mostly in the way he killed it. He couldn't have given it an injection? No, he had to throttle it. Ugh.

I also went through a few classics: Designing Woman and The Awful Truth. Can't go wrong with Gregory Peck and Cary Grant. Oh, and I liked The Martian Child and Becoming Jane. John Cusack and James McAvoy .... drool....

I really wanted to like Michael Clayton, We Own the Night, Enchanted, and Rock Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, but I mostly had to watch those on fast-forward with the captions on, because I couldn't get into them ... yet I still felt compelled to watch the whole thing, unlike Lost Highway, which I gave up on about fifteen minutes into it.

I don't know when I'm going to get to the three I have out now, because I'm still working my way through season finales of my tv shows. I just saw the finales of My Name Is Earl, The Office, and ER last night. If they kill off Linda Cardellini's character on ER, I won't be too sad. Tonight's viewing: The American Idol season-ender. I mean, I already know who won, but I want to watch the whole spectacle on tape and then read the recaps/commentary on TWOP and EW. Because I am a geek.

  1. OH!!!

I can't believe I forgot to mention that Nikki, Matt, and I made the mistake of watching The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension on Sunday night.

    O. M. G. What the hell is up with this movie?!

I kept dozing off because apparently it was after my bedtime, but I don't think it would have made any more sense to me if I had been able to stay awake.

Anyhow, we gave up about fifteen minutes from the end because we were both tired and tired of it.
