Miss me?

Feeling neglected, dear reader? Please accept my apologies and a brief summary of my life for the last 24 hours.

Last night I was at an alumni networking event that only reminded me how much I suck at networking. So, feeling self-conscious and lame, I bailed at an early opportunity.

On my way home, I stopped in a recently remodeled branch of the CCPL. I browsed a bit and picked out a few things to check out. Then I realized that I couldn't find a standard checkout desk. Instead, there are all these self-service checkouts — individual workstations lined up near the door, with staffers prowling around them and waiting for someone to dare to use one.

When I did, my card wouldn't scan right, and a staffer swooped in and took over, doing the entire check-out process herself. So, why bother having "self-service" if the staff will come do it anyways?

Once at home, I had the nagging feeling that I was supposed to be working on something, but I couldn't place what. So, I watched ER and fell asleep soon after.

I woke up at 6:58 and made the fatal decision to hit the snooze bar. I'm sure you can imagine the next scene: Panic! at the Pillow when I roll over at 8:06 and squint at the clock. Urk! Third time this month!

Sigh.

Then at lunchtime I remembered what I was supposed to be doing: updating a Web site. Not this Web site, but since I can't access the other one until I get home, this will have to do.

In other news . . .

I have sucked it up and taken another step on the path to joining the twenty-first century: I got a cell phone. First a blog, now a cell. What next? (No, really: suggestions welcome.)

  1. Oh, and I just bought a digital camera this week, too, so that's off the list.
Not like anyone was going to make actual suggestions, but just in case.

  2. You need an MP3 player now. That would complete the transistion into the modern world. :)

Specifically an iPod. Greatest invention since sliced bread!

  3. I have two MP3 players, actually. One is an attachment to the first PDA I bought but it can also function independently. You can only load an hour's worth of music on it, though.

Since my musical tastes are varied and extensive, I bought a 15GB iPod (Generation 3, I think). I kind of want a video iPod, but I haven't been able to justify the purchase yet.

When the screen on my 15GB cracked, it was cheaper to get it repaired and have a larger capacity battery installed at iPod ResQ than to buy a spanking new video or nano.

And once I saw a nano at a friend's house, it sort of cooled my ardor to have one. It's almost too small.
