Book Report: Volume 7

I'm a big fan of Freaks and Geeks* and Paul Feig in general, so I was curious about his YA novel. It's kind of science fiction-y and adventure-y, and, of course, hi-larious.

After being teased one too many times at school, 12 year-old Ignatius MacFarland decides to build a rocket. Maybe extraterrestrials are nicer than his classmates! But instead of landing in outer space, Ignatius ends up in another frequency ruled by bitter former English teacher, Chester Arthur. Mr. Arthur has taken the advancements from our world and passed them off as his own, so everyone in the frequency thinks he's a genius. It's up to Iggy and Karen, another trapped earthling, to expose Mr. Arthur for the fraud that he is—and to hopefully make it home alive.

While you're waiting for the sequel to come out, you can play Frequenaut Flyer, a video game on the publisher's Web site.

* In fact, I was bonding with someone last weekend over the fact that we both had the deluxe DVD set that comes with the yearbook. I can't find my copy in my messy apartment, but it's in there somewhere.
