Friday Timewaster: Bloons

Bloons

I was in such a good mood when I got into work (five minutes early!) today.

I woke up at 3:30 in the morning (that's what happens when you nod off at 8 the night before) and since I couldn't fall back asleep, I read one of the dozen library books I haven't touched since I checked them out. Today it was Little Lady, Big Apple, which is pretty satisfying chick lit.* So, the happy ending put me in a good mood. Plus, the fact that I finished it around 7:15 meant that I had time to swing by Dunkin' Donuts for a large hazelnut coffee and bagel** before heading for the office.

More good luck: I caught all the lights, was the first car in the lot, and switched off the car just as the song on the CD player was finishing. (A particularly swinging version of "I Could Have Danced All Night" from Come Dance with Me!, one of a half-dozen Sinatra concept albums I serendipitously came across on the rack at the library last week.)

Anyhow, I thought, Oh, I'm going to plow through all the work I put off all week! But now it's almost 9 and I haven't started. I'd better get cracking . . . which means I should not be playing Bloons, but being a monkey who shoots arrows at balloons is a lot more interesting than Greek tragedies and Latin American dictators. So... maybe just until 10, then? Yeah, that's the ticket.

*And yet . . .

Comments that could be construed as spoilers follow:

I wanted her to end up with Nelson, but I think that's mostly because he (a) cooks for her and (b) understands her. What could be better than having your little company, helping out people in your '50s/'60s retro getup, and then putting on comfy clothes, having a lovely dinner at home, and vegging out? I'd much rather have that than the society wife life that she's going to have if she marries Jonathon. (Who, because of the name, I kept picturing as this guy who gives financial advice on Fox News — I don't watch it; my dad has it on every Saturday morning. But the guy on TV looks something like a short monkey — maybe a chimpanzee? — and the guy in the book was supposed to be tall with red hair. Whatever.)

**Uhm . . . with egg, cheese, and sausage.

  1. Ha! How funny that I just read that book last week! Have you read the first one? I haven't, so I'll have to go back and read it.

I COMPLETELY agree with your spoiler opinion. I think it's going to happen, eventually. The next novel is already in the works.

  2. I read the first one and liked it, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I did see the third one mentioned in the author bio on the back flap. Little Lady and the Prince, eh? I'm intrigued.
