Thursday Timewaster: Chart Porn

First of all, I love that the io9 site ("Strung Out on Science Fiction") uses the tag "chart porn."

Secondly, I enjoyed this specific entry about the section of the C-SPAN Web site devoted to the presidential debates, complete with detailed charts and graphs of who spoke when, how many times certain key words were used and who said them, etc. and so on. (I know it's been a while since the last debate, but I have to cram in all the election-related stuff that I find interesting now, before the election.)

In other news:

I'm also excited that audio podcast for The Rachel Maddow Show has been expanded to the complete hour, instead of the measly fifteen-minute segment that was initially available.

It's not as though I couldn't watch it — thanks to the magic of reruns, about six hours a night is devoted to Olbermann/Maddow; on top of that, each segment of the show is available in on demand at the MSNBC Web site.

However, apparently there was quite an uproar about having
only a partial show posted, and the network honchos bowed down to the overwhelming demand. I like to think that my e-mail (reproduced below) was but one drop in the flood.

Forget the cowbell, I want more Rachel! ( In podcast form, anyway.)

Like the other 90+ commenters on iTunes, I was totally stoked to find out that The Rachel Maddow Show is available in podcast form . . . and then completely bummed upon realizing that — like Countdown, back in the day — only the opening snippet of each show was available, instead of the evening's entire program in all its glory. Sigh. Please add me to the list of people who are hoping that The Rachel Maddow Show show recieves the Olbermann upgrade, if you will, and soon!

You see, I have about seven hours to kill at the office once I finish listening to the podcast of the complete Countdown, but quickly hiding the MSNBC video player window when the boss goes by is a skill I have yet to completely master. And yet, nobody knows what I'm listening to while my screen shows "actual work." So, having the full episode's audio available for download would be a big help in achieving my goal of staying well-informed while still feeling like I'm goofing off.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,
Amy
